From dating to marriage

Dating is an intentional pursuit of marriage, not casual preparation for it.Unfortunately, many of us are being told we must date early and often if we ever want to be ready for marriage. You should always be making progress whether you are single or with someone; in fact, true love pushes you to be more. Marriage is possible but a good marriage needs a good foundation. Minimize causing heartbreaks because sometimes you will break someone’s heart when you choose not to date them or because the right thing to do is to break up. Some stay in the wrong relationship just because they are getting good sex. Soon, the relationship ends with regret or with you having a child and the father running away or years of your life wasted in the name of sex leading to retrogressive emptiness. But sometimes dating reveals just how much you two are not compatible. When your feelings are hurt by your lover, be honest. Establish good communication, nurture good habits, agree on dos and don’ts, set the right love culture. The Lord reveals things progressively, seek God until you reach the place you are sure being husband and wife is God’s will. You can’t stay or be with someone because you feel sorry for them. Sometimes a relationship ends, not because of wrong done or unfaithfulness, but because the two are not meant to be.If you expect to be faithful in marriage, be faithful when you’re single. Have the same standards you desire to have in marriage. Love you and be happy with you so that you won’t jump into a relationship to cover up the mess you are.

Godly wisdom is a wide stream, and God’s word often allows us to apply his heart and wisdom in remarkably different ways, even in dating. It came in many forms, but it goes something like this: So, I started paying tuition, registered for classes, purchased the textbooks, jumped into relationship after relationship, and never looked back — until I wanted my money back.We cultivate the “mini-marriages” that subtly undermine any real marriage God might eventually give us.
